Geek Blog – Math Geek Love Equation

Geek Blog – Middle English Rap
We’ve seen Shatner rap Shakespeare, and Klenginem rap in Klingon; this video takes it. The cake, that is. Red Yak produced the video (read the story here) and posted it under the YouTube user name veryredyak. The rhythm of Middle English really lends itself to a hip-hop medium, and Chaucer’s epic Canturbury Tales is poetic, hence the rhyming aspect. For my Word Origins/Linguistics course (medieval literature major) in college, part of my final was memorizing, and reciting (properly, which these guys to wonderfully) the General Prologue from the Tales.

We all make up words for songs we hear on the radio. Some of us, even make up words for symphonic pieces. Gene Roddenberry devised (demised?) lyrics for his original Star Trek. The creme de la geek make up lyrics for popular video game themes.

Geek Blog – Klenginem: SuvwI’pu’ qan tu’lu’be
So, I thought that William Shatner’s rap video was weird. Not to mention the techno remix of his “climbing a mountain” interview. This takes the cake. Eminem’s “Without You”: in Klingon! Now we need someone to cover 50 cent in Tolkein Quenya.

Geek Blog – Shatner Raps
William Shatner is a very interesting person. Or, perhaps, he’s an alien. The jury is still out on that one. In any case, he’s an actor that has no problems taking risks. First interracial onscreen kiss. Mocking the audience who helped fuel his rise to iconism with a harsh, “Get a life!” A musical version of Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar” with him rapping all the parts.
Uhm, what?!?!
You read that right, William Shatner: space exploring, where no man has gone before-ing, womanizing, halt-talking Captain Kirk himself – rapping on stage in iambic pentameter.
Granted, it was a sketch within the movie Free Enterprise, but still!
