Geek Blog – Easy Mode
I’ve done the “Easy Mode.” For achievement completion, for insane high scores and quick runs, and because the game was hard (Mega Man 10, I’m looking at you).
CollegeHumor takes this concept (as always) to the extreme!
Geek Blog – Video Game Musicians
I’m a huge fan of video game music. OCRemix is my ultimate source for digital music, remixed or otherwise. I seldom get an opportunity to enjoy such creations from an analog source; however, I’d be first in line if Play! – a Video Game Symphony came to my area. After the jump, enjoy a couple of great scores performed by real people, using real instruments. As I understand it, FFIV – A Theme of Love is standard curriculum in Japanese music classes.
Geek Blog – Mario Grows Up
Enjoy the following inspirational “ad” for Super Mario Galaxy. Watch Mario evolve and grow over the years. It’s a few years old, but very touching. Besides, Mario RULES!

Geek Blog – Nintendo E3 2009 Metroid: Other M
I’ll admit, I haven’t played any of the FPS Metroid games. Hell, I haven’t played a Metroid since the SNES installment. I’ve never been much of a fan of the console FPS games. I learned pretty well with Call of Duty: World at War and CoD4, but that was in the PS3 era; I hadn’t yet grown accustomed to FPS when the GameCube was in it’s “Prime” (LOL puns make me laugh).
Anyway, what makes this new episode (prequel?) in the Metroid line special is that it’s developed by Team Ninja who brought us stunning visuals in Ninja Gaiden Sigma and the Dead or Alive series. Not to mention the boobtastic DOA Xtreme.
Other M appears to incorporate a variety of gameplay styles, from side-scroller, 3rd person and FPS alike. Ridley makes an appearence in the video as well as some new otherworldly baddies.
The only complaint I have is the apparent short hair Samus exhibits. Her voice is awesome, her zero-suit is sexy, but she’s always had lengthy locks. It’s that long hair style that gives her just enough feminism to juxtapose the violence she delivers while suited up. Cropping it short seems to take away a little from that quality. But I digress.

**UPDATE**
Apparently I didn’t watch the trailer close enough. The brief shot of Samus in her Zero suit shows long hair. Which begs the question: who is the other gal? Sister? Younger self? The shot below appears at the 0:54 mark.
Geek Blog – Nintendo E3 2009: Mario Announcements
Yesterday at E3, Nintendo announced during their press conference their new innovations for the year, as well as some more of the same ol’ Nintendo fun-ness.
First off, a sequel to the widely received Super Mario Galaxy. New levels, abilities and a playable/rideable Yoshi. It looks like Bowser is up to no good (again!) and it’s your job as Mario to stop him. Many familiar locales, including snow, ice, water, air, with what looks to be underground and ghost house levels. Old abilities making a comeback appear to be the bee suit, with Mario getting new abilities such as the drill/dig and Yoshi may even have opportunity to shine with multiple abilities. The first installment was a blast but I wonder if the two-player gameplay is improved.
Even if Mario Galaxy 2 doesn’t have any better multiplayer options than the original, Nintendo also announced a “New” Super Mario Bros. for the Wii. You may recall the “New” Super Mario Bros. for the DS released in 2006, with new levels, new powerups and new graphics. The release for the Wii has all that and some more! Mario can fly with the aid of a propeller cap (activated by shaking the wiimote) and he can freeze enemies while wearing his penguin outfit. Classic powerups like the fireball remain. The big improvement we see this time around is the multiplayer capability. Up to 4 players can tackle a level simultaneously, either in competitive (scored by coin gathering) or cooperative. Mario, Luigi and 2 flavors of Toad (Yellow and Blue) work together to storm past Goombas, KoopaTroopas, Piranha Plants and others. Yoshi makes an appearence as well. All in all, an exciting time for Mario Fans.
Oh, as a side note, Nintendo also announced the WiiFit Vitality Sensor, to monitor your pulse and stress levels while working out, as well as a new Metroid game from TeamNinja.
