Geek Blog – What Teachers Make

GeekWife is wrapping up her “Week alone with the class” portion of her student teaching.  I’m very proud of her; she’s only told me of a couple of students who ended up crying.  All kidding aside, she puts in a lot of work in the off hours to finish her college education and earn her teaching certificate and I’m frankly amazed at her perseverance.  A co-worker sent me a link to this video and I thought it would be great to share.  You might recognize him from his performance of “Speak with Authority.”

Taylor Mali has many great poetic performances and would have been my favorite English Teacher!

To the GeekWife: I love you, you’re doing great!

365 Challenge – Day 023

“Get over here!” just doesn’t do this image justice.

365Challenge

"Come here!"

Whenever I get fancy bookends, I struggle to decide what goes between them.  Do I take the Sword of Truth series from the shelf?  The Star Trek hardcovers?  Shannara?  Deathstalker?  Graphic novels or RPG manuals?  The list goes on.  I figure my Tolkien collection deserves a special spot, but why stop with just one copy?  You can tell I love these works by the state of the books.  In that stack shown above, are the paperbacks my father handed down to me when I was just eight – I’ve read them every summer since.  The only ones missing are my collection of Tolkien’s letters and his translation of “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight” – which is on a different shelf, dedicated to medieval poetry.

I’ll admit, I have yet to read “The Return of the Shadow” or “The Treason of Isengard” — the summer is young yet.

*Bonus points if you identified the Lego minifig as Raistlin Majere, after he switched to the black.

Our Story

It has been a long while since I’ve posted poetry; one of the top reasons for building this blog.  Today; however, is a special occasion that warrants a new post of a new poem.  The GeekWife and I are celebrating 5 years of wedded bliss.  Here’s the story of Us.

Our Story

Many years past
Another held my heart;
Freely given, I was a fool
Left behind with emptiness,
A hole in my soul I couldn’t seal.
Confused and retreated, I remained alone.

In the empty black, a small pinpoint appeared,
You, my heroine arrived at the barrier I’d built.
You fought, you pushed and made your way in.
Your heart was a beacon that cut through the darkness.

Rather than follow my folly,
You acted wisely and thoughtfully.
You shared your heart with me,
Joined me in partnership,
as a friend
as a mate
as a wife

For your simple act of kindness,
I will be forever thankful
Each embrace,
moment,
tender touch,
Is eternally etched in my mind.

I love you!

Geek Blog – Looking Forward to the Rebellion

Everyone by now has heard of Rebecca Black, the awesome epic failure spat out by the Ark Music Factory.  If you haven’t heard the autotuned trainwreck, don’t.  Check this out instead – a parody who’s lack of faith isn’t as disturbing as the original.

Be sure to watch till  the end for nice change of pace and maybe even a laugh.

Geek Blog – Super Spice 64

Never will I look at Super Mario Bros. 64 (or Old Spice for that matter) in the same light.  Terry Crews is no Isaiah Mustafa (the man your man could smell like), but he definitely brings an explosive energy to the product.

Geek Blog – Math Geek Love Equation

This is for the GeekWife; I’ve been on the road from work for quite some time and now that I’m back, want to show her a token of appreciation.  She’s a bit of Math Geek, and she loved the Harold and Kumar Root 3 Poem, so here goes:
