Monday post…. it’s lunchtime, and I still don’t have enough caffeine.
Today, we’ll explore the concept of other dimensions; up through the 10th dimension, in fact. But in order to even begin to wrap our minds around this extra-dimensional concept, we need to first step down. We’ll start with a trip into the minds of an inhabitant of the 2nd dimension, a Flatlander. Pause, take a deep breath and let Carl Sagan explain (with more after the jump):
What a trip! Of course Dr. Sagan’s hypercube shadow is an intriguing concept, but still difficult to visualize, so check out this animated version:
So, now that we’ve taken a step into the second dimension, we have the tools available to assist our journey to higher dimensions, by recursing the process that allowed us to understand how a flatlander would view our three dimensions.
